Gamers need to support the effort with a short survey

The development team at Riot Games is so dedicated to making sure that players of League of Legends get the best potential experience from the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title that it is getting ready to create its own dedicated network for game traffic.

In an official forum post, the company explains that the move is designed to expand on the current plans to address ping issues linked to the East Coast and Canada.

Riot Games explains that Internet Service Providers focus on moving large volumes of data at once, which is required by applications like Netflix or YouTube, but fails to address the needs of titles like League of Legends.

The studio adds, “On top of that, your internet connection might bounce all over the country instead of running directly to where it needs to go, which can impact your network quality and ping whether the game server is across the country or right down the street.”

A dedicated League of Legends network for all game traffic will solve these issues, and at the moment ISPs in both Canada and the United States are set to be part of the plan.

The company adds that it needs input from gamers in order to tweak the structure of the network and make it viable, which means that a short survey should be filled by all active League of Legends players.

For now, it’s unclear when the plan will be completely implemented and how much it will impact the MOBA experience.

League of Legends is seeking every advantage it can get in its competition with DOTA 2

The plan is an ambitious one and the advantages it delivers might seem marginal, but the team at Riot Games is trying to make sure that League of Legends introduces new features in order to attract more gamers than DOTA 2 from Valve, its biggest current rival.

The MOBA space is crowded at the moment, but the development team at Blizzard is still aiming to introduce Heroes of the Storm later in the year, creating an interesting alternative that uses heroes drawn from its many successful intellectual properties.
