Video game developer Riot Games has announced that it will be donating to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in order to honor one of its players, Joe, who is afflicted by a rare form of cancer.

Until May 18, 2012 Riot Games has pledged to donate 100 percent of the sales price of Joe, who is the favorite champion of the player, and his Jaximus skin to the foundation.

The price of both products has also been lowered by 50 percent for the period, to encourage more players to donate.

The official announcement from Riot Games states, “Joe has been battling Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of cancerous bone tumor that affects thousands of children around the world. Joe, a 17-year-old from Westchester, Pa., first joined the ranks of League of Legends a couple of years ago with his friends, and plays the game as a way to stay connected with them as he undergoes treatment.”

League of Legends is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle game that uses the Defense of the Ancients concepts at its core.
