The reporting tool is meant to create a better community

League of Legends is one of the most popular games on PC right now, but it's also plagued by a host of problems, mostly stemming from its competitive nature.

As any multiplayer online battle arena game fan can tell you, the community is pretty vitriolic, and things tend to go south really fast when the members of a team aren't coordinating properly, which translates into a lot of verbal abuse.

Thankfully, developer Riot Games has a pretty good reporting system set up, where you can choose to report miscreants for various in-game no-nos such as swearing, being racist, lashing out, not cooperating with the team, feeding the enemy, and so on.

Furthermore, the reporting system even has the option to further enhance the feedback with a comment, briefly describing what the reported player was doing.

Unfortunately, as League of Legends' community is so big (with over 50 million players duking it out each month), many gamers feel that reporting isn't doing much to quell the propagation of the misdeeds.

Reporting does actually work

The perceived problems seems to be so significant that Riot Games has decided to tackle the issue head-on, revealing that the reports matter and see fruition, even if you don't actually get closure and see the results of your reports.

A company staff member posted some revealing guidelines and advice on the game's subreddit and assured gamers that their feedback was being taken into account.

"Our reporting system lacks a direct feedback component which lets players know when action ends up being taken on people they've reported. I think this could be improved in the future. But reports matter whether you see the results or not," RiotWookieCookie says in a post.

He further points out that while leaving a comment was an optional component of reporting, it's something that helps Riot put the action in a proper context, and it doesn't even have to be a detailed account of what happened, just a short description.

One other thing to note is that the Tribunal, the player-run authority that decides on whether toxic community members should be punished for their in-game crimes, frequently chastises players who say "easy" when winning, for poor sportsmanship.

So, you'd to well to follow the Summoner's Code and try to make the League of Legends experience better for everyone.
