Leadtek Research announced the launch of a new entry level graphics card based on the Nvidia 8400GS graphics processing units. The newly launched WinFast PX8400 GS TDH Extreme comes with a low profile form factor and thanks to its special designed cooling fan it operates at a very low noise level, while its innovative design cools the GPU and nearby components to render another 30% higher performance in visual experience.

The newly launched Leadtek entry level graphics card is based on the 80 nanometer fabrication process as it integrated the Nvidia GeForce 8400GS graphics processing unit and it comes with 256MB of dedicated DDR2 video memory that unfortunately uses a narrow 64-bit interface. The WinFast PX8400 GS TDH Extreme packs quite a punch when it comes to the running frequency of the GPU as it goes as high as 500MHz, while the shader units are clocked at an impressive 1200MHz. The video memory, even crippled as it is by the narrow 64 bit interface is still clocked at 1000MHz DDR, so it uses a real clock frequency of 500MHz, which is quite a lot for a graphics card designed for the low level market segment.

Thanks to the 8400GS graphics processing unit, the new Leadtek card is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista and so it also supports the latest DirectX 10 specifications, including Shader Model 4.0, which allows it to render and deliver high quality graphics. Like all Nvidia 8000 based cards, this one too comes equipped with the fast PCI Express system bus, which allows increased data transferring speeds between the card and the host operating system.

As the graphics card comes with 16 stream processing units and integrated H.264 hardware acceleration capabilities, it is the perfect tool for delivering high quality images in multimedia applications with a minimal central processing unit involvement. Another good point for the Leadtek graphics card is the presence of the HDTV encoder and Dual-Link DVI-I connectivity which allows TV-out presentations to reach 1080p resolutions and it also supports the new widescreen LCD monitors that can display resolutions up to 2560x1600 at 32-bit color depths.

The new Leadtek WinFast PX8400 GS TDH Extreme graphics card is the perfect combination of innovative Leadtek and Nvidia technologies, which brings a whole new level of performance for the value-minded customers, while proving to be the best choice for building a home multimedia theater.

As the new 8400GS based graphics card is also coming with a performance boost of 30 percent, it is a good starting point for the upgrade of a barebone computer system, which would benefit the most from the low form factor chosen for this card. The performance boost should also make this new Leadtek graphics card a welcomed addition to any casual gamer or entry level computer system which will be used mainly for multimedia tasks, where the Nvidia based Leadtek card excels.
