UK's finest amps family expanded

You don't have to be English to desire a Vox guitar amp: you just need to love your guitar and know what fine sound means. In the instant you comply with such conditions, you're most likely to want a Vox amp. Don't ask why because I can fill in 10 pages with reasons for which I could buy a Vox amplifier and thus wreck my hour's piece of news. So, cutting to the chase, the Vox family has grown bigger with the launch of the new Extreme Lead XL series.

If you think they're meant for blues then you're wrong: the "extreme" in their codename should have told you they're made for metal. In other words, the new series delivers Vox's most aggressive hi-gain, powerful tone available so far, of course while retaining the thickness and definition that have made Vox a great name in the industry.

The new blasters are tube-loaded (so you can expect the best sound from them) and come in four "flavors": 15, 30, 50 and the outrageous 100W model. From 1x 10" (the 15W version) to the massive 2x 12" (the 50W model), all new Vox amps rely on the proven reliability and versatility of the acclaimed Chrome Valvetronix technology.

But there's something more: Vox has decided to "hotrod" these models so the patented 12AX7 ValveReactor circuit blasts from sweet cleans to the hardrocky sound of the 70's and from serious metal-tones to the "Damaged" devastating hyper-gain needed for the most brutal sounds in nu-metal or detuned/7 strings guitars.

Finally, these new thunder-machines will be out in the summer of 2007 so the price ratings aren't yet public. As specced by Vox (via Harmony Central), the new amps' feats look like this:

-11 amp sounds - all easily dialed-up from the top panel

-11 preset programs - 2 user programs, plus manual mode

-11 high-quality effects (with fully adjustable parameters) plus noise reduction, complemented by a Tap button for quickly setting delay time or modulation speed

-New Octave effect provides more depth and options for creating blistering lead tones

-Manual mode (the sound reflects the settings of the knobs)

-Adjustable power amp output Wattage (not available on AD15VT-XL)

-External speaker output jacks (AD50VT-XL & AD100VT-XL)

-Effect send/return jacks to connect an external effect processor in a loop connection (AD50VT-XL only)

-Built-in line/headphone jack for direct recording or practice

-Optional VFS2 dual foot switch to switch programs or bypass effects.
