Lea Michele was supposed to release her first studio album this summer but, when her boyfriend Cory Monteith was found dead of an OD in his hotel room, all such plans were put on hold. “Louder” is finally coming out in 2014, and Lea is now promoting it with an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The leading single off “Louder” is “Cannonball,” of which the “Glee” alum says it was what saved her from all the grief she was feeling after Cory died. She says it helped her understand that “grief can suck you in” and that this wasn’t what Cory would have wanted of her.

Fans will also find on “Louder” a song about Cory. Lea describes the album as a very personal one, including on it only tracks to which she relates and which mean something to her.

Also on the show, a very emotional Lea told Ellen that she was lucky to have had the chance to spend time with Cory, who was such an amazing person that made her every day better.

“I was so happy. He's such a private person and I literally lived every day of my life feeling like the luckiest girl in the whole world. I just thought he was the greatest man and so at that moment, that memory, it means so much to me,” Lea told Ellen of how Cory came home one day to tell her he’d talked about her on the same show.
