Lea Michele has debuted the video for “Cannonball,” her first single off the debut album. However, the song holds a more special place in her heart, because she recorded it with Cory Monteith in mind.

Cory died last year of a drug and alcohol overdose; he had dated his “Glee” co-star Lea for a very long time, with her often referring to him as the love of her life.

She was understandably shattered by his unexpected death, especially since it occurred at a time when she thought he was getting clean and sober. She had already recorded all the songs for the album but, she later admitted, she then decided to make it even more personal by including a track about Cory too.

That turned out to be “Cannonball,” which, however, isn’t a ballad or even too dark and depressing. Instead, it’s Lea’s message that there’s a silver lining to every cloud, if only you know where to look.

“It certainly helps me with my loss that I’m dealing with. And I think it will translate and help people with whatever they need it for. I hope it gives them strength,” she said in a recent interview,

Strength, that’s definitely the best word that goes perfectly with this new release.
