She needs to educate herself and get off Twitter

Since her affair with current husband Eddie Cibrian, which started when they were both married to other people, singer LeAnn Rimes has seen her popularity dwindle considerably. The fact that she can’t seem to stop saying offensive things on Twitter and in interviews doesn’t help, of course.

Rimes was one of the performers booked for the NBC Christmas special at the Rockefeller Center, which coincided with the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Also at the Rockefeller Center were hundreds of New Yorkers protesting the no indictment decision in the case of the cop who put an illegal chokehold on Eric Garner and killed him.

LeAnn Rimes didn’t think the “riots” were a good idea and said so on Twitter.

Bad timing, bad choice of words, bad everything

LeAnn is one of those celebrities who use social media to keep in touch with the fans, whom she replies to, retweets, and engages constantly – and not on the topic of music only. She also shares with them personal snaps and even more personal information, like where she and Eddie and his kids with ex-wife Brandi Glanville spend a holiday and what they get for presents, the likes.

To her, it probably felt like the most natural thing in the world to try and say that it was a sad situation that in which people had to go out in the streets in protest when the imminent holiday season should be about peace and love, and not animosity and death.

What came out though was something else entirely: LeAnn said that it was “sad” that people were “rioting” when her Christmas tree ceremony was going on. As if the ceremony were more important than the “riots” and that the “rioters” should have considered laying off their “rioting” for a few hours, during the concert.

Rockefeller Center was one of the venues that brought out the most protesters. The repetition of the word riot and its variation in the preceding paragraph is essential, because these were protests that were taking place, not riots.

Educate yourself, get off Twitter

Obviously, people called LeAnn out on it, just like they did on her complaint that it was “sad” that the protests were taking place during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. No, what was sad was that a 44-year-old man had died at the hands of a police officer who used a banned restraining method on him even though he wasn’t doing anything wrong.

What was really sad was that the man had told the police officer that he couldn’t breathe and he still would not release him. What was sad was that the cop would not be prosecuted after he killed the man.

All these things – and many more – were brought to LeAnn’s attention after her very ignorant tweets, along with the observation that she needed to educate herself before speaking on such a huge platform as Twitter. And by the way, she might also consider getting off social media for a while.

LeAnn is sorry

LeAnn’s response didn’t fail to come. “My heart is in the right place. I am sad for everyone tonight. Those who are wronged, those who are struggling, those who are heartbroken. My heart is with you. I wish peace for all. I apologize if my understanding of the ny protests were taken in any other way. It was what was being relayed to me and reported,” she explained on Twitter.

However, those tweets weren’t the only thing for which she came under fire, because she was also criticized for her performance and her apparent desperate attempt to bring the hot on stage – during a family show, no less.

Voices online thought her try-hard come-hither attitude and moves, and her showing off her garter on stage were too much for the occasion at hand. LeAnn didn’t apologize for that, and you will find the video of her performance below to see if she had anything to say she was sorry for on this account.
