A group of Romanian hacktivists, who recently defaced two websites associated with The Daily Telegraph as a protest against negative depictions of the Romanian people in the British media, attacked the French newspaper Le Monde over the weekend, citing similar reasons. On April 14, a previously unknown group of hackers identifying themselves as an outfit called the Romanian National Security (R.N.S.) hijacked two telegraph.co.uk subdomains used for various promotions, and used them to post Romanian nationalist messages. Apparently, the attackers took issue with the jokes from a segment of the popular TV show Top Gear that was shot in Romania last year.
On Sunday, the planete-plus-intelligente.lemonde.fr was defaced with a similar protest message directed at the French media. The subdomain, which normally hosts a partner publication focused on scientific topics, has since been restored. However, a mirror image of the defacement is still available on defacement archive Zone-H.

The new message left behind on the Le Monde website along with the Romanian flag read as follows [approximate translation from Romanian]: "This is not a movement of resistance, a protest or a rebellion! It is the cry of the entire Romanian people calling its brothers, who forgot that Roman blood also flows through our veins. The blood spilled on battlefields so that our people's history can be written is now demanding JUSTICE. The heroes of our nation will never die! We don't want the people who spilled it so that Romania can exist on the world's map to be forgotten. We want to remind our children and our grandchildren of them and to give them the honor they deserve. We've had enough of this ridicule! The gypsies [Roma people] are not Romanians! It's not them who wrote our history! When you refer to our fellow countrymen, stop using expressions such as 'Romanian gypsies.'" Just as with the The Telegraph attack, the hackers ended their statement with a warning: "We respected France, you will respect Romania! R.N.S. WATCHES to make sure this happens." The R.N.S. might have targeted Le Monde in response to a questionable joke recently made by French humorist Jonathan Lambert during a TV show. The moment, criticized last week in the Romanian media, has Mr. Lambert presenting ( video) what he claims to be the Romanian salute, by posing as a beggar, while saying, "S'il vous plait, Messieurs, Mesdames!" [Please, Sirs, Madams].

| Comment #1 by: George on 21 Apr 2010, 02:57 UTC | reply to this comment | This is what mass-media deserves for not making their homework. It is a shame, everytime when there's something bad happening because of Gypsies (Not ROMA people, there's no such thing as "Roma" people - they changed their name because even themselves were ashamed of the "gypsy" name ), the Romanian people are blamed. Even in Romania, very few Gypsies have any knowledge of foreign langauges, they don't have jobs and they don't like to send their children to school. Instead, they teach'em to steal and beg for money. |
| Comment #1.1 by: Andre on 23 Apr 2010, 20:46 GMT | Before Romania was part of EU, Western countries blamed Romanians for not making enough efforts to integrate the gypsies. Now, forced to face with the "gypsy" issue themselves, and failing to integrate these people, I find it funny the westeners still project this failure upon Romania. No one can force them to behave as someone should in the XXI century, they have their own values (for the rest of us are negative values). For a Romanian is very disrespectful to be associated with the gypsies, it's just like saying the Fench are a bunch of drunkers, Germans are a bunch of farters, London is a muslim city full of pompous but ugly people. |
| Comment #2 by: Kanata on 21 Apr 2010, 07:39 UTC | reply to this comment | BRAVO !! BRAVO ! Les Francais sont des Magrebins ! Salaam alekoum. |

| Comment #4 by: camelia on 21 Apr 2010, 09:34 UTC | reply to this comment | vreti sa le dam o lectie francezilor si sa-i sprijinim pe conationalii hackeri in demersul lor? e simplu si sta la indemana tuturor: boicotati hypermarketurile cora, carrefour si auchan. nu mai mergeti la cumparaturi acolo. difuzati acest mesaj, spuneti-le prietenilor, rudelor, vecinilor etc. va cheltuiti banii munciti de dimineata pana seara in hypermarketurile lor si frantujii ne fac tigani. sa vezi cum dau fuguta cora, carrefour, auchan in franta la vanatoare de scuze! nu uitati ca hypermarketurile lor castiga numai din romania mai mult decat cat castiga in toata zona de europa centrala si de est. sa vezi atunci ce rau e fara banii "tiganilor romani"! astea sunt demersuri eficiente, cele care ii ating la buzunar! |
| Comment #5 by: Bogde on 21 Apr 2010, 12:31 UTC | reply to this comment | Anyone who dares to offend a country deserves more that that! Don't mess with the whole people of a country! Before Romania joined EU, all thses "civilized" countries used to blame tham for not treating right the gipsies. You got them now! Treat them right! Ha! You see?
Again:
DON'T MESS WITH ONE WHOLE PEOPLE WHOEVER THEY ARE! YOU CANNOT HANDLE THAT! |
| Comment #6 by: Jean on 22 Apr 2010, 10:57 UTC | reply to this comment | The correct title of this article should be: "LE MONDE CORRECTED BY ROMANIANS", but some media always try to confuse and manipulate people. |
| Comment #7 by: Jimbo on 24 Apr 2010, 06:49 UTC | reply to this comment | What is the french army main expression? "WE SURRENDER!!!!"

| Comment #10 by: Kel0o on 05 May 2010, 21:20 UTC | reply to this comment | Ok. So I'm a romanian trying to explain how things are with the gypsies so that you "civilised" countries/people finally understand something about our country.
1. Gipsy = Rroman. Yes, with two (2) R.
2. Romanian (with 1 R)= citizen of Romania.
3. With the latest data gathered by myself I can say that in Romania we have:
89.5% Romanian people
6.6% Hungarian people
2.5% Rroman people (the so called gypsies)
0.3% German people
1.1% Other nationalities.
How can your reporters find them? I really don't know. In Bulgaria they represent 5% of the population, for God's sake! How do they do? Hide them? I mean, I see no BBC or some other big time media trust making a case about the gypsies in Bulgaria.
Oh, and about "Le salut roumain" - S'il vous plait monsieur! - Shame on you! You should be thinking what you did in ALL the wars that you DIDN't win! And I quote: S'il vous plait monsieur Anglais! OR S'il vous plait monsieur Allemand! Maybe you wanted to say "Le salut Rroman" It souds different. Oui, je parle francais aussi! Est ce que vous etez sourpris? 30% de la population Roumaine sais a moins deux langues etrangeres.
Maybe my french isn't the best, but I can speak, read and write in french. What's the percentage of french people knowing two foreign languages?
I'm not stating that by being gipsy you are some underdeveloped life form. I personally have a gipsy friend that has a degree in robotics and is working for a well known company. But I have to admit that he's a rare case.
For the Romanian people, being called "gipsy" is very insulting and disturbing. We are sick and tired of people from the western europe calling us communists and gipsyes. Maybe now you understand why this "Romanian National Security" team has been formed. We are trying our best to catch up to you, and you are not helping. Remember, we have only 20 years of democracy and freedom. Open your eyes and see! |

| Comment #14 by: Miu on 23 Sep 2010, 04:08 UTC | reply to this comment | That is what mass media is for you. They will print anything just to keep themselves occupied. So hearsay becomes the new news. Just because was printed. |

| Comment #16 by: Constantin on 11 Sep 2011, 14:44 UTC | reply to this comment | France is * . Far from that big culture in the past.
French televisions are magrebians and France is a gate in Europe for hateful muslims that use France to * on Europe.
Any furious arab or hungarian can pay nowaday a * paper or tv channel in Paris to spread with * on every nation in Europe.
Look at their president: he is a funny puppet.
I am very disapointed.
We should be watching the west. We can expect from there a muslim invasion, not from East, like centuries ago.
A romanian "gipsy". Bye !
Shame on you, France! | |
