Google updates its products periodically, but this time, the improvements are presented in an unique way that quickly attracted my attention. The update is especially released for lazy users that are currently fans of Google Personalized Homepage but are avoiding configuring the service and obtaining better results. Under "I'm feeling lazy..." title, the Google employees presented the new features, starting with a gadget improvement meant to find more related tools for a certain utility.
The company added a drop-down menu to display related gadgets
organized under the "You might also like" menu, helping you find other useful tiny tools for a desired category.
"For those who are too lazy to create new tabs to organize stuff, here's a bit of magic. If you add a new tab to your homepage, you can name your tab and have the option of letting us select the content for you based on your chosen name. Say I create a tab called "Astronomy" to get the latest news and info on that topic. We'll populate the page with the NASA image of the day, the current moon phase, and a bunch of feeds related to astronomy. Less lazy folks are welcome to try to stump us with tab names," Kai Shih, Software Engineer, presented one of the updates.
The third update presented concerns the gadgets (again) and is meant to help users find the best utilities for their homepage. You're now able to post comments and rate certain utilities, allowing other users to choose their tools depending on your reviews.
One of the most interesting aspects of the blog post is the conclusion: "Let us know what you think. We're never too lazy to listen." The statement contains a link to a Google Groups thread created especially for the configuration of the product but the first topic is quite contrary to Google's statement: "Does anyone answer these questions in this discussion group?" Who's lazy now, you... Google?!
