14 DAY TRIAL // Layar, the world's most renowned Augmented Reality Platform and browser, has just announced the release of its new 3.5 version on the Android Market. The browser's new version allows users to experience Augmented Reality, without having to open specific layers or enter search queries. The dynamic content displayed in real time offers an easier way for users to discover and search the world around them.
Launching the application will automatically display the most interesting content nearby, making the Layar Reality Browser a very useful location-based service. The dynamic list of contents displayed in real time by the application can be sorted by proximity, location, time, popularity and lots of other customizable user preferences. The fact that this list will also be displayed without holding the device up greatly increases the chances to find interesting content in that specific location.
“Augmented Reality is starting to behave like a true mass medium. It is becoming scalable with the introduction of its own discovery mechanism. We know that real-time location-based content discovery drives frequent re-use of the Layar browser,” Raimo van der Klein, CEO of Layar, said.
Layar's recently introduced Stream Technology will be used to index and rank the huge number of tagged objects, which is currently of around 2.4 million per day. Only last week did the company manage to publish over 700 layers announcing that “several thousands” were still being developed. The Stream Technology is capable of supporting location-based objects like check-ins, 3D models, coupons, gaming, and more.
According to Layar, the company's customer base has surpassed the two-million-user mark and is still rising due to the fact that millions of mobile phones have the Layar Reality Browser application pre-installed. The 3.5 version of Layar's Reality Browser with Stream Technology is currently available for download through the Android Market. The iPhone version is expected to be released in the near future.
