Mobile phone users in India will soon be able to purchase a new cheap Android-based smartphone in their country, namely the XOLO A500 from Lava.

The new mobile phone arrives on shelves with a price of INR 6,999 ($130 / €98) attached to it, and it has already been listed at Flipkart, though with the “out of stock” tag next to it for the time being.

According to a recent post on mobigyaan, the smartphone should land on shelves in the not too distant future, though no specific release date for it has been provided as of now.

The new Lava XOLO A500 was announced with a 4-inch TFT touchscreen display capable of delivering an 800 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as with a 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Krait processor packed inside.

Furthermore, the new handset features 512 MB of RAM, along with 4GB of internal memory. Those who purchase it will be able to expand it by up to 32GB with the use of microSD memory cards.

On the back, the new device sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper, with flash and support for video recording. There is also a VGA camera placed on the front of the device, to serve for video calling purposes.

The specifications list of the new device also includes microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, built-in GPS receiver, and a 1500 mAh battery. It also includes Ambient Light sensor and Proximity sensor, it seems.

The new XOLO A500 was unveiled with Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system loaded on top. Given its low specs, it might not receive an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean anytime soon.

However, the phone will provide users with the possibility to enjoy two SIM cards inside it at the same time, it seems. Keep an eye on this space for more details on this device.
