Indian company Lava Mobiles has just announced the upcoming availability of IRIS 405 and 455 Android smartphones. Although Lava launched the IRIS 455 about a month ago, the company did not reveal any details on the phone’s availability and pricing options.

Today, the folks over at AndroidOS report that Lava IRIS 455 will be available for purchase in the coming days for Rs 8,700 outright, which is about $160 or €125.

Lava IRIS 405 will be available in the next few days as well, but it will cost only Rs 7,500 ($140 / €105) off contract.

Both smartphones will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but more importantly, Lava has confirmed that they will support OTA (over the air) updates.

This means that Indian customers who purchase Android phones won’t have to visit an authorized service center in order to update their devices to a new software version.

It is also worth mentioning that both devices offer dual-SIM support and come packed with 1GHz dual-core processors. Aside from that, specs sheets are a bit different.

For example, the IRIS 405 sports a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 800 x 480 pixels resolution, while IRIS 455 features a slightly larger 4.5-inch display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution.

Furthermore, Lava IRIS 455 packs 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The smartphones also feature dual cameras (5-megapixel main camera and VGA front camera for video calls), as well as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3.5mm audio jack port.

“With these two new smartphones, Lava aims to provide the consumers with the best of hardware and software available today. We expect the IRIS 405 and 455 will be preferred by both students and professionals who want to get the best android experience without sacrificing on performance or features,” said SN Rai, co-founder and director, Lava International Ltd.
