Indian OEM Lava has just announced the upcoming availability of a new mid-range Android smartphone that will go on sale in India on May 27, the Iris X1.

According to Lava, Iris X1 will be exclusively available via Amazon India for Rs 7,999 ($135 / €100) outright. The company has also announced that customers who order the smartphone on May 27 will also receive a 16GB microSD card with the device, for free.

Lava has stated that the Iris X1 will also be available across national retail chain stores and authorized resellers in India after May 27. This means that the Lava Iris X1 may only be exclusive to Amazon India for one day.

Keep in mind though that only online orders made from Amazon India on May 27 are eligible to receive the 16GB microSD memory card for free with the Iris X1.

Specs-wise, Lava Iris X1 is the typical mid-range smartphone with one exception, the fact that it comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, which is unusual for a mid-range handset.

On the inside, Lava opted for a 1.2GHz quad-core Broadcom BCM23550 processor, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM. There’s also an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Surprisingly, the smartphone only packs 4GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further enhance storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The smartphone comes with an intelligent Flip cover that is said to reduce battery consumption. Speaking of which, Lava Iris X1 is powered by a 1800 mAh battery “providing ample back up for multimedia payback, talk-time and stand-by.”

Obviously, it offers dual-SIM capability and a wide range of connectivity options, including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS and microUSB.

Here is what Hari Om Rai, chairman and managing director at Lava International Ltd., had to say about the launch of Iris X1, “Lava is proud to announce the launch of ‘X’ series with the Lava Iris X1, a beautifully crafted smartphone with best in class hardware & software features.

It is for the consumers who not only want a high performance device but also a beautiful design.
