Lava Mobiles is back on the smartphone market with yet another budget-friendly Android handset. The new Lava Iris X1 Atom is a dual-SIM low-specced smartphone that will be released in India in the coming days.

The Iris X1 Atom will be available in White-Silver, Black-Silver and Black-Gold colors. Customers will be able to grab this cheap Android smartphone for only Rs 4,444 ($70 / €65) outright.

For that low amount, you will get a 4-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display and a 1750 mAh battery, which hasn't been rated by the manufacturer yet.

Lava's smartphone will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, so here is another downside that you might want to take into consideration before making your purchase.

Quad-core CPU, but only 512MB of RAM

Surprisingly, on the inside, Lava Iris X1 Atom is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, possibly provided by MediaTek. However, Lava didn't seem to find the resources to put more than 512MB of RAM inside.

Also, the Iris X1 Atom packs only 4GB of internal memory, which means that you will definitely need a microSD card in order to expand storage up to 32GB.

On the back, Lava's budget-friendly smartphone packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash, video recording and “Active Shot” function that allows users to take pictures in 3 secondary. There's also a VGA camera for video calls as well.

Some connectivity options are included as well, such as the mandatory dual-SIM support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with AGPS and microUSB.

Software-wise, not many things are known about the Irix X1 Atom, but Lava confirmed the smartphone would come with various apps preloaded, including WhatsApp Messenger.

We will probably find out more as soon as the smartphone goes on sale which, according to Lava Mobiles, should happen in the next couple of days.
