Indian OEM Lava Mobiles is flooding the market with its Android smartphones every month. The company’s products target various segments of the market, so fans of the brand have lots of alternatives to choose from.

The Iris 504Q+ is among the most popular smartphones launched by Lava, along with Iris X1. It’s also a decent mid-range Android smartphone that currently sells for Rs 11,499 ($190 / €140) outright, which makes it a great deal if we take into consideration the recent KitKat upgrade.

The handset was released in India a few months ago with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. At the time of the launch, Lava did not mention anything about Iris 504Q+ getting an Android 4.4.2 KitKat update in the future.

Well, it looks like three months after the phone’s debut in India, Lava Mobiles delivered the KitKat upgrade for it. Keep in mind though that if you purchase the smartphone now, it will still come with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean inside.

You might not be able to upgrade to KitKat right away, as Lava has announced that the update is available FOTA (firmware over the air) in waves, which means not all Iris 504Q+ units will receive it at the same time.

However, many Lava Iris 504Q+ owners report on the phone’s Facebook webpage that they have already captured the update, which is about 352MB in size.

Those who own the smartphone should know that there’s no download link for this update, as Lava is delivering it over the air. This means that they should receive the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update automatically.

In order to check for eligibility, simply go to Settings / About phone / System update / Check update, and if KitKat appears to be available for your phone, follow the step-by-step guide on the screen.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat should bring a brand new dialer application, which will allow Iris 504Q+ users to automatically prioritize contacts according to the most frequently dialed numbers in the list.

But that is not all. Lots of improvements and bug fixes have been included in the update as well, along with an enhanced user interface, better battery autonomy and increased performance.

Those who consider purchasing the Lava Iris 504Q+ should know that the smartphone is packed with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card.

The smartphone also sports a 5-inch HD capacitive touchscreen display, a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera and a secondary 2-megapixel front camera for video calls.
