14 DAY TRIAL // Tom Cruise has not been seen in public with any potential love interest since his divorce from Katie Holmes and, while some are still clinging to the hope that they might get back some day, others believe he’s already looking for wife no. 4, this time among his fellow Scientologists.
As of November 2013, one name that constantly pops up in relation to Tom Cruise is that of Laura Prepon, star of the new hit comedy series “Orange Is the New Black” and a top Scientologist herself. Reports say that they have been dating quietly for some time, with the more recent round claiming that things are very serious between them.
Considering that Scientology is said to have ruined Tom’s marriage to both Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, if he’s really in the market for a new wife, it would make sense if he looked closer to home, within the celebrity ranks of the cult because, this way, whoever the lucky lady might be, she would not object to his involvement with it.
However, assuming that two people are dating just because they happen to belong to Scientology is ignorant, Prepon seems to be saying in a new interview with SheKnows. She reckons the report came to be precisely because so many people are ignorant of the ways of the church and, lacking evidence, they make up stupid romantic stories like this one.
“The thing that sucks is that there's so much false data because people are in mystery as to what Scientology is, so they just kind of make up stuff. It's kind of unfortunate because then I have to be like, ‘No, that's actually not what's happening’,” she says.
“It's just so funny that, when people don't know, they just make stuff up, [like], apparently I'm dating Tom Cruise right now. And apparently he doesn't want me doing the show because I portray a lesbian and I'm a Scientologist. This is false; where are they even getting this stuff? It's unbelievable to me,” Prepon adds.
She is clearly up to speed with the rumor mill because the latest on the so-called romance claimed that Cruise was forcing her hand to leave “Orange Is the New Black” because Scientology was anti-gay and he could not have a girlfriend of his on a show like this.
Here is another misconception that the actress is taking the time to clear up: Scientology is not anti-gay in any shape or form. Prepon says she’s very involved in the LGBT movement and has attended several meetings and events, besides taking part in various campaigns.
