On May 5, Lubomir Rintel announced the immediate availability for download and upgrade of NetworkManager 1.0.2, the default utility for managing network connection under GNOME and GNOME-based desktop environments.

According to the release notes, NetworkManager 1.0.2 now provides support for 2GHz and 5GHz WiFi networks, which means that it will be indicated for all Wireless devices supporting these frequencies, physical port ID support on the "nmcli device" output, and proper support for restoring Bridge connectivity after system suspend and resume.

The "ifcfg-rh" plugin received new configuration items, which include IPV6_ROUTE_METRIC, IPV4_ROUTE_METRIC, DEVTIMEOUT, IPADDR and PREFIX, with the last two being used for specifying IP address ranges of shared IPv4 network connections, and the management of the teamd daemon instances for Team devices was enhanced.

Numerous memory leaks have been addressed

In addition to the new features mentioned above, NetworkManager 1.0.2 fixes numerous memory leaks found in the previous versions of the application, a CONNECTION_FILENAME variable has been implemented in the dispatcher scripts, and an example dispatcher script has been introduced for applying complex routing rules.

Furthermore, numeric values are now accepted by the "mode" key of Bond device options, the dnsmasq daemon has received the ability to respawns when it terminates, and it now supports management of DNS (Domain Name System) resolver configuration, and the IPv6 hop limit is no longer lowered by the receipt of a Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP) router advertisement.

Lastly, the new NetworkManager update brings support better systemd support by early fetching of D-Bus names, better system startup by implementing a "wait for carrier" function to network devices without carrier on startup, and unqualified hostnames are no longer sent to the DHCPv6 server for dynamic DNS updates.
