Pilates, as it is already common knowledge, is not about losing weight or building muscles, but about achieving core balance and strength, as well as flexibility. Boxing, on the other hand, is all about the muscle mass. A combination of the two is now available and is already making celebrities fit in Hollywood, with the revolutionary workout known as Piloxing and created by trainer Viveca Jensen.

Piloxing is not only about the body, though. When Jensen came up with the idea of combining the two routines to help women stay in shape, she also aimed to have them boost their self-esteem and confidence, and, from what celebrities she worked with say, she has managed to do just that.

Singer and actress Hillary Duff and “Gilmore Girls” star Alexis Bledel stand by the trainer who has come up with the amazing workout, and the impressive results it helps achieve.

“There is no other exercise that contains two extremes. The powerful feeling of boxing, throwing solid punches, then transferring your body movements into Pilates and feeling like a ballerina, both are extreme workouts, yet both share the common ground of working from the ‘core’ region, the ‘core’ is the heart of both.” Jensen says on the official website about the Piloxing workout.

According to FitSugar, all exercises feature weighed punching gloves, but almost the same results can be achieved without them as well. A DVD to train at home is also available – even if it may not be as engaging as a regular class, it is extremely fun and stimulating as it is, with Jensen making sure she explains each step properly before kicking things into a higher gear, the same e-zine points out.

“The video offers three things that make for a worthwhile exercise DVD: it’s easy to follow, fun, and gave me a good workout. One hour of Piloxing flew by as Viveca guided me through various punching moves like jabs, hooks, and uppercuts; an arms section that involved arm circles and more punching; leg and balance exercises with elements of ballet; and floor work that focused on booty moves and Pilates ab exercises. Each variation starts slowly so you can get the hang of the moves before Viveca speeds things up to make them more challenging. You’re often moving your arms and legs at the same time, whether it’s doing simultaneous squats and punches or twisting and jabbing for more targeted oblique work.” a short review of Jensen’s DVD reads.
