As we have become accustomed, we've again skimmed through the long lists of free applications for iPhone and iPod touch to let you in on the best you can have. Not only are they free, but some apps are so useful you'll be having remorse for not having to pay for the benefits.

First off, we thought you'd be interested in knowing that the folks at Securicy Ventures are feeling very generous and have decided to announce a special promotion on their job-finding application, JobCompass. “[...] We are giving away JobCompass in preparation for a new update coming in the next two weeks! Don't miss the opportunity to own this amazing job search app for FREE,” the special promotion says. So, here's what you're getting.

JobCompass

Finding a job with JobCompass is simple, according to its makers. After specifying the distance in miles you want (5, 10, 25, 50, or 100 mile radius) the app is to search open spots for you. After you enter a query, you can let the app do the rest. When you see a job that you are interested in, you can either email it to yourself, or to a friend, and even apply online. According to those who've tested the app, JobCompass asks permission to use your location as a base from which to perform a job search, after which a Google map appears pinning itself to your location. Almost any search term goes.

Features

•Searches over 2 million jobs; •Finds jobs that are located near you instantly anywhere in the USA; •Configured for US locations and the English language (Other countries and languages coming soon); •Works on any iPhone with Edge, 3G or WiFi; •Features an easy-to-use and well designed interface; •Includes a built-in video tutorial and email support; •Dedicated website at www.jobcompass.net.

Subnet Calc

As its title implies, Subnet Calc is a tool developed by Matt Galloway to help network administrators who need to remember details about the various subnets that they handle. Options include the ability to select an IP and a subnet in CIDR notation and Subnet Calc, which will tell you all the details about the subnet, including it's class and even whether or not the IP is in the loopback / private ranges.

Update: Matt is planning a more feature-packed version of Subnet Calc, which is going to include some user-requested functionality. The standard version of Subnet Calc will continue to be available under its existing form.

SP Photo Fix Lite

This photo retouching tool is actually a stripped down version of SP Photo Fix. Available for free download, the application doesn't miss essential editing options including brightness, contrast, sharp, and blur. For performance considerations, this application is intended for editing pictures before sending them from the device, according to Salvador Ponticelli, the developer of the app. All photos are handled and saved in low resolution. For those who may become interested in the full version of SP Photo Fix, extra functionality includes HUE, Saturation, Lightness, B&W, Sepia, and more.
