The latest testing releases of both Firefox 4.0 and Opera 10.70 sport synchronization capabilities.

Opera Software has just released Opera 10.70 Build 3488 for Windows users, noting that the Content blocker synchronization functionality is an important aspect of the new development snapshot.

Essentially, with the latest release of Opera 10.70, the Norway-based browser maker is making it simpler for user to have access to a list of blocked URLs no matter their location.

“It has been a while since we added something to Opera Link, but with this "10.70" snapshot, we are introducing synchronization of the content blocker. This makes it easy to build and maintain a list of blocked items anywhere you go,” revealed a member of the Opera Desktop team.

However, users need to keep in mind that Opera 10.70 Build 4388 is pre-release software designed for early adopters and testing. As such, the release comes with inherent issues, including a problem related to existing URLs failing to synchronize.

“If you already have a list of blocked URLs before enabling synchronization, you might have to add a URL to the block list through the content blocker for synchronization to start working after logging in to Opera Link,” the Opera Desktop team member added.

The next major iteration of Firefox will also bring synchronization capabilities to the table, by integrating the new Sync feature.

Sync allows you to “synchronize your settings, passwords, bookmarks, history, open tabs and other customizations across multiple devices so you can take Firefox with you wherever you go,” Mozilla explains.

The feature is available in the Candidate release for Firefox 4.0 Beta 4, the upcoming Beta development milestone of the next iteration of the open source browser.

The feature can be accessed under Tools in the browser’s menu, and offers users the possibility to star using Sync, or to continue leveraging the feature.

Of course, users of the original Firefox Sync extension are undoubtedly familiar with the functionality that this new feature supports.

The only difference is that with the advent of Firefox 4.0, the browser will offer synchronization capabilities out of the box, without requiring users to install any extensions.
