Windows is not hip anymore

Acer, one of the top notebook producers, has started to ship mobile systems which have Linux installed on them, and Acer's partners are already retailing these systems.

The configurations of the systems having Linux installed include Intel Celeron M processors, but also AMD Sempron solutions.

Acer has resorted to this solution because the price for a mobile system with an open-source solution installed is significantly smaller than a system with a Microsoft solution.

On the official page of the producer, we find out the Acer Aspire 3002NWLCi notebook having ?Linpus Linux LE" installed on it costs only 705 USD. AS3502LCI, a less powerful model available on the American market fitted with a Intel Celeron M processor and retailed by Synnex, is available for only 590 USD.

Another reason why the Taiwanese producer is switching to Linux could be related to the general trend of the promoting of open-source solutions, a significant number of companies and governmental organizations planning to adopt soon the Linux solutions.

Considering that notebooks from HP, IBM and Toshiba (to mention just a few) equipped with Linux have been already present on the market, the appearance of a new model is not very surprising.

However, Acer has the reputation of a producer that offers systems for the extremes of the market, either very cheap, either models from the Ferrari line which have a unique design and exceptional technical specifications. By including Linux on the Acer mobile systems, the models which will benefit the most from this will be the entry-level.
