The Last of Us is the first title launched in 2013 that manages to take over the number one position of the United Kingdom video game chart for four consecutive weeks.

This is proof of the quality of the game experience that Naughty Dog has created, which managed to blend solid mechanics with impressive narrative elements in a post-apocalyptic world.

At the same time, it shows how wise Sony has been to launch The Last of Us in early summer, when the market tends to have less big releases and an important title can dominate the charts for a longer period.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition continues to sit in second place in the UK, according to the data from UKIE, showing how a game designed specifically for the PC can succeed in the console space.

FIFA 13, the football simulation from EA Sports, continue to sell very well in the country that invented the sport and has actually climbed up one position to reach this for the week that ended on July 6.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf from Nintendo is in fourth place followed by Assassin’s Creed III, which has managed to gain four positions in a seven-week period.

Tomb Raider, the new adventure starring Lara Croft, also gains one place to land in sixth, followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the shooter from Activision and Treyarch.

The Sims 3: Island Paradise, the expansion from Electronic Arts, is the big loser of the week, dropping down three positions to stand in eight.

Deadpool, another video game title, is in ninth, while Far Cry 3, the shooter from Ubisoft, closes down the UK top ten.

Project X Zone failed to crack the top position and little change is expected in the coming week as an even smaller number of titles are launched.
