Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is getting ready to complete a software update process that started about four months ago on devices powered by its Windows Phone operating system. Telefonica Spain is the last wireless carrier to deliver the updates, and they are currently scheduling.

Due to a wide range of reasons, the update process could not be completed in only a few weeks, just as many might have expected, but it seems that it might not be too long before that happens.

One of the reasons was that not all wireless carriers approved the software at the same time, and the fact that Telefonica needed four months for it to start deployments is a clear indicator of that.

The software update that this wireless carrier's customers will receive includes three updates, 7008, 7390, and 7392, better known as the February update, the NoDo update (copy&paste), and the May update (with security fixes).

The update is not available for download as of yet, but it should become available in the not-too-distant future, and users will receive notifications on it.

The delay was also caused by various issues that emerged with handsets out there, mainly with those coming from Samsung.

They experienced problems with the February update, and Microsoft had pull the plug on it for Omnia 7 and Focus owners, and a series of issues with the May update were registered as well.

The result is that not all of these devices have received the latest update as of yet, though it seems that Omnia 7 owners should soon get their share of new software.

“I know Omnia 7 owners on Orange are anxious for word about updates,” Eric Hautala, GM, Customer Experience Engineering, Microsoft, notes on a blog post.

“My post was a little bit later than normal this week because we felt oh-so-close to having definitive scheduling news. Mike will pop on the thread the moment we start scheduling. We know you want this news quickly.”

Focus users are not so lucky, it seems, as the update will take a little longer before arriving on their devices. But it will be delivered eventually, the said blog post reads: Finally, I want to assure Samsung Focus owners who haven’t received an update notification that there are many people across several companies continuing to work on the solution for your phones. We want to make sure you have a quality experience with the update. That is taking time, but we’re not resting until it’s done.
