Double Fine has started throwing its support around, helping other indie titles get on their feet. After helping platformer Escape Goat 2 make its way into the community's heart and computers, it's time for an adventure title to benefit from its seal of approval.

Last Life is an upcoming adventure game created by independent developer Rocket Science, that is currently undergoing a Kickstarter campaign, with a fifth of the necessary funds already being raised at the time of writing, and 28 more days to go.

Last Life is a kind of sci-fi noir adventure game which has the player investigating their own murder on a colony on Mars. A murdered detective is 3D printed back to life and reopens his last case in order to discover AI corruption, corporate espionage and a powerful conspiracy which might have been responsible for Earth's downfall.

"Tim Schafer is kindly spreading the word about Last Life. In fact, it's one of the first games that get to proudly wear the Double Fine Presents banner," Sam Farmer of Rocket Science wrote on the project’s Kickstarter page.

Last Life will deliver an epic story, and the developers are so far interesting in raising the necessary funds to create Episode One. The game is inspired by modern point and click adventures such as Telltale's Walking Dead series or Kentucky Route Zero.

Last Life will focus on atmosphere and storytelling, while also challenging the player's detective skills of interrogation and deduction.

The game's setting is a human colony on Mars, one of the last remnants of the race, and the action takes place 11 years after Earth was destroyed. You take on the role of Jack Parker, as he tries to hunt down his own killer through the glittery streets of MarsTopia.

Along the way, you'll be able to discover deadly secrets from an enormous cast of bizarre characters, by employing charm, bribery or even less pleasant methods, and you will uncover the inner workings of the United Corps, which runs the planet like clockwork.

He has limited time at his disposal, granted only by the annual Dead Man's Party holiday, during which all recently deceased get 3D printed back to life in a new body, with just enough time to enjoy the gala.

As such, he only has four hours to break out of the lab and pick up any stray leads in his troubling case, in an attempt to find his killer and maybe uncover what triggered Earth's doom.

The game will be deployed on PC, Mac and Linux.
