Now that Anna Nicole Smith is dead, everyone can join in for a fair share of media attention. After all (and no disrespect meant for the dead), she was the only one basking in the spotlight and her passing away is for many the perfect opportunity to become famous and make an honest buck on the side. If you don't know where all this is coming from, you might as well ask Anna's lover, Howard K. Stern. He knows all about it... after cashing in over $1 million for a tell-all exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Aside from what Stern says and does, Anna's mother also plays a huge part in the developing tragedy. She says she repeatedly tried to warn her daughter (despite the fact that she wouldn't talk to her) about the company she kept and about the huge amount of drugs she used to do. For her, this is good enough of a reason to claim sole custody of baby Dannielynn Hope, the girl Smith gave birth to in the Bahamas last year. The fact that Anna hadn't seen her own mother in years and that she hadn't spoken to her for almost as much doesn't seem to matter...

Meanwhile, Larry Birkhead, the celebrity photographer with whom Smith was involved until last summer, when she went to live in the Bahamas with Stern and presumably the true father of the child, filed the papers for Danni's custody in a Florida court of law. He also spoke with 'News of the World' and revealed that Anna's drug-related problems were not a thing of today. According to him, the former glamour girl had a history of drug abuse, a thing that was also to be seen in her late son, the 20-year-old Daniel.

'I am sorry that I couldn't save them, I tried. I watched over her to make sure she was safe, and once I was basically pushed to the side ... I had no control over what she did or anyone else around her did. I can't help but thinking: Could I have saved Anna if I was with her? Or even Daniel? It keeps playing out in my head.', Larry said in the interview.

He claims that Anna pushed him aside the moment Stern made her choose between the two men in her life. Obviously, she went with Stern and Larry lost all contact with the one whom he says he loved so much, the mother of his unborn child. The fact that Birkhead could actually be the real father of Danni is confirmed by one of Stern's family members - his sister - who says that Smith knew Howard was not Danni's baby daddy.

'When I spoke to [Smith] in March, when she found out she was pregnant, I took her shopping, and she told me the baby was due in mid-October, and that one other person could have been the father and that was Larry Birkhead, but nobody else.', Bonnie Stern told 'USA Today'. Even if so, yet another man has come out of the woodwork to claim the custody of the child: Smith's bodyguard, with whom she had a short fling.

OK, so it's very likely that it will take months (if not years) to get to the bottom of this one...
