As the demand from the liquid crystal display TV, desktop PC monitor and mobile computer businesses is rising constantly, iSuppli Corp predicts that the sales of driver integrated circuits for large-size LCD panels will double by 2009.

The firm's study covered display drivers, ICs that provide voltage and/or current to the rows and
columns of flat-panel displays, including LCDs, plasma panels and Organic Light Emitting Diodes, with the core products in the market being row drivers, column drivers and timing controllers.

According to iSuppli, 2005 will be a driver sales year worth of $3.0 billion on 2.3 billion units.

Furthermore, the market research firm projects an estimated revenue from worldwide shipments of driver ICs for large-size LCDs of $4.2 billion in 2009, rising at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.6 percent, from $2.3 billion in 2004.
Unit shipments of LCD drivers are to reach 4.2 billion units in 2009, expanding at a CAGR of 19.8 percent from 1.7 billion last year.

The study predicts that the combination of rising flat-panel TV sales and the extensive use of row and column drivers in LCD TVs will cause shipments of driver ICs for LCD TVs to rise to 57.9 million units in 2009, a CAGR of 42.6 percent.

Shipments of LCD driver ICs for mobile PCs and notebook computers are also expected to increase for the next few years.
