Although I am sure that nobody can deny the fact that plasma HDTVs offer a far better image quality when compared to LCD panels, these TVs have been held back by their imposing price tags, but this is one technology that isn't ready to kick the bucket just yet as recent reports show that sales of plasma TVs were up in Q3 2010.

This report comes from Quixel Research that concluded a study in the US and came up with some very interesting results, showing plasma TV sales were up by 28% from Q2 2010 to Q3 2010, sales growing by 15% compared to 2009 Q3 numbers.

According to the same market study, this trend was possible thanks to the growth recorded in sales of HD 720p plasma TVs, the unit volume for both 42 inch and 50 inch plasma HDTVs raising by 27 percent and 65 percent, respectively, impressive numbers by any means.

Moving further down the line, Quixel Research concludes the increased demand witnessed in Q3 2010 was due to the price cuts made available by a wide number of established consumer electronics brands.

However good plasma panels have been doing it these latest months, they still couldn't help out large display sales as these were down compared to 2009, revenues being affected as well as they went down 6 percent from 2009 numbers.

Compared to the overall trend, plasma panels have been doing well when it comes down to revenues too, as they grew both quarter to quarter and year to year.

Reading about Quixel Research's report I can't say that I am surprised by any of its findings, since plasma panels really manage to offer far better image quality when compared to LCD screens, the viewing angles as well as the contrast ratios coming above what LCD panels can muster.

Of course there are some downsides too, such as the increased image glare, but the improved contrast ratio more than make up for this, at least in my book. (via Twice.com)
