Now, more than ever, it seriously looks like
Lara Croft will be moving the stuff from Croft Manor (Croft Mansion) over to another company. Rumor had it that French rival
Ubisoft was the one bidding to acquire SCi Entertainment, owners of the well known Tomb Raider franchise. Time Warner also fits somewhere in the graph, as they've
"grappled" themselves as much as 10 percent to SCi. I said rumor "had" it because SCi has just confirmed their intentions of selling.
According to an earlier post up on The Guardian, "SCi Entertainment, owners of the Lara Croft Tomb Raider computer game franchise, admitted yesterday (September 4) that for the second time in two years it had received a bid approach, believed to be from its French rival Ubisoft. [...] The news is likely to arouse interest from Time Warner, which has a 10% stake in SCi; the leading US gaming company Electronic Arts - home to The Sims and Medal of Honour - and possibly Sony."
This, of course comes in the light of management restructures occurring within the company and a disturbing admission coming from CEO John Riccitiello. Care to know what he told The Wall Street Journal? "We're boring people to death and making games that are harder and harder to play." Yup, that's about as much confirmation everyone needed to know that SCi is selling. But here's the statement that confirms an early negotiation stage for SCi, as play.tm reports:
"Following the recent speculation in the press, the Board of SCi Entertainment Group plc confirms that it has received an approach and as a result has entered into extremely preliminary discussions regarding a possible offer for the Company. No proposal has been received at this time, however, and there can be no certainty that any offer for the Company will be made or as to the terms of any such offer were one to be made."
So I guess we should keep an eye out for a big announcement then. Don't go too far, we'll make sure you'll hear it from us first (whatever the announcement is).
