The game can be played solo, but it's also been developed for up to four players

Although we kind of expected Crystal Dynamics to announce a new Tomb Raider game at E3 2014, we were taken by surprise by their working title, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

While this is not just another reboot for a Lara Croft game, it has been crafted in the spirit of Guardian of Light, which means it will have multiplayer co-op gameplay available for up to 4 players.

Since we couldn't get more details on the game at the time of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris' unveiling, Crystal Dynamics executive producer Scot Amos was kind enough to share lots of interesting info on the game with PlayStation Blog team.

As you all know by now, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris has been confirmed to arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, so we expect the game to offer state-of-the-art graphics given the fact that developers will be able to take advantage of the next-gen consoles' powerful hardware.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is an arcade top-down action game that takes place, as the name suggests, in the forsaken Temple of Osiris, hidden in the deserts of Egypt.

“We challenged ourselves with Guardian of Light by making it the first Lara Croft game featuring co-op and we continue this tradition by making Temple of Osiris our first-ever four player co-op experience with Lara!

“This is a unique opportunity to cooperate with or compete against your friends in drop-in and drop-out co-op to earn bigger rewards, better treasures, and more powerful artifacts to boost your character,” explains Scot Amos.

The good news is Crystal Dynamics made Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris to address both fans of single and multiplayer modes. “The entire campaign is multiplayer and single-player since we know lots of fans will want to tackle Lara’s all-new adventure solo,” confirmed Amos.

Amos went on to say that his team draw much of the inspiration from the previous Guardian of Light title, including “the fast paced action, isometric and cinematic camera, dangerous puzzles, deep tomb exploration, lethal traps, and more.”

Players will be able to enjoy short single-player sessions and then continue to play with their friends thanks to the drop-in drop-out system.

Crystal Dynamics' Scot Amos did not wish to reveal a timeline for the release of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, but he did say they are trying to get it out as fast as possible.
