Lanner Electronics is a Taiwanese computer hardware company that specializes on network storage and security solutions and it just announced the release of its new networked media server for home or office use. The "Media Storage and Content Server for the Digital Home", codenamed NS04-3100, features solid network connectivity as it uses Gigabit Ethernet and IEEE 802.11g/b wireless for a local area network that enables it to stream multimedia content simultaneously to several applications like Tunes and Media Center.

"The consolidated media server market has witnessed considerable growth since we released the awarding winning NS04-4100 storage server for the SMB market. The home storage market is now at a point where consumers are realizing the benefits and are actively seeking cost-effective solutions for sharing content in and around the home," explained Allen Chang, Associate Vice President, Storage Group of the Lanner Electronics company. "The NS04-3100 targets this rapidly growing market by delivering an unparalleled mix of performance, functionality and ergonomics at a price to reflect the market demands."

According to the press release, the 4-bay Media Storage Server allows users to share digital content like video and music with anyone on their network, while at the same time storing the file on the server for safekeeping. The built in UPnP AV media server allows streaming of digital content to all media players found on a network. The server is expandable as it features space for four SATA 3Gbps( SATA II) drives, that can be arrayed in a RAID setup. "Furthermore, the NS04-3100 can also be bundled with Lanner's award winning backup and recovery software, allowing customers to add value for business and corporate markets".

Other features of the NS04-3100 media storage server include a Marvel 88F5281 processor, DHCP and FTP Server for easy network installation and wide operating system support including Microsoft Windows Vista, Linux and Mac OS X.
