Floyd Landis is desperately trying to state his innocence every chance he gets. And it's just normal to do so, since he could lose all his cycling merits because of this drug test scandal. After winning one of the most thrilling Tour de France races in years, the American tested positive for a high level of testosterone.
Still, his lawyers gave some pretty childish reasons for his failed drug tests, saying he had some beers and
a shot of whisky before the famous 17th stage. After finding out the B Sample result, Landis began launching accusations on UCI, stating that he was forced into giving an explanation for his test result.
He denied, however, that he told his lawyers to announce that stupid excuse and he apologized for that earlier yesterday: "The whisky idea was not mine and the dehydration was a theory from the lawyers I hired in Spain to represent me at the opening of the B sample. But I did not authorize them to say something like that so I'm disappointed with that".
More, Landis blamed UCI for leaking his A Sample results. As the rider said, it would be impossible for a cyclist to use testosterone only once - it would have no effect on you - in a 3-week race.
"I was tested eight times at the Tour; four times before that stage and three times after, including three blood tests. Only one came back positive. Nobody in their right mind would take testosterone just once; it doesn't work that way. Zero chance", argued Landis.
The American was sacked by Phonak soon after finding out the final results of the drug tests. He will now try to prove his innocence with the help of lawyer Graham L. Jacobs, the one who defended Tim Montgomery and Tyler Hamilton in their doping cases.
