Floyd Landis' attempt to clear his name after the latest doping allegations seems to be going nowhere. And, actually, this is his own opinion about it. After testing positive for a high level of testosterone during the 17th Stage of Tour
de France, the American admitted that he is not very trustful in the B sample and that he expects it to confirm the A sample result. He insisted, however, that this won't stop him from trying to prove his innocence.
"We will explain to the world why this is not a doping case but a natural occurrence. I would like to make it absolutely clear that I'm not in any doping process. In this particular case, nobody can talk about doping", stated Landis earlier last week. From that point on, a number of speculations appeared in both French and American media.
Some of them concerned the Phonak rider's drinking situation a night earlier. According to his teammates, the American drank a few beers and 2 shots of whisky, which could explain the high level of testosterone in his body. Landis himself admitted that he didn't use any banned substances to increase that level, since his body does all the work. "My body produces that level of testosterone naturally, without any outside medicine", stated Landis after finding out the A sample result.
In the meantime, the B sample results should have been made public yesterday. Still, because of some misunderstandings between Landis and UCI, the American is yet to find out the second test's result.
"We have done this so the whole thing can be speeded up. We took this decision because of the importance of the case. Also the longer it goes on the more damage the sport risks suffering", said an UCI spokesman, trying to explain their decision to test Landis so soon.
