Lance Armstrong is finally cleared out of doping allegations. After winning the Tour de France for a record 7 times in arrow, the American was targeted by many officials and even riders, who stated that the Texan was using illegal substances during the race.
After his own friend and Tour Organizer, Jean Marie LeBlanc did not even offered to sustain him, Lance Armstrong decided to prove his innocence through independent investigations. And after more than 8 months since the doping allegations, it was stated
that Armstrong did not use banned substances. Furthermore, it was also determined that the manner in which the Tour de France officials managed the whole issue was "completely inconsistent" in terms of the existing rules. The Cycling Union asked Scholten law firm to further investigate these allegations just after the last year's Tour.
The rumors about Lance using banned substances were released by L'Equipe sports newspaper. The reporters said that they had access to some documents from the laboratory, in which 6 of the urine samples took from Armstrong were clearly showing positive results.
The doctor that provided L'Equipe with the necessary documentation was Mario Zarzoli. He had to step down from his position as chief medical officer of UCI soon after, so that he can be properly investigated himself. After clearing the whole issue, he was reinstated in the same UCI position.
Not later than 2 weeks ago, Lance Armstrong said that he will come back to France for this year's tour, but only to clear his name and watch the competition during the mountain stages. Asked about how his relationship with LeBlanc changed after all this, he admitted that he wants nothing to hear about the Tour manager, and will expect public apologies from him and L'Equipe newspaper.
