France has not seen the last of Lance Armstrong. The 7 time Tour de France winner is expected to return to France around July. Don`t worry, though. He won't endanger everyone's dreams of winning the race, since he will only come as a tourist.
"I'm going to go to the final week of the Tour de France. I like France and I like the people," he insisted. "But I don't want to have a coffee with Jean-Marie Leblanc or anyone from L'Equipe, but they're a small part of the French population", said Armstrong. His bitter feelings towards the tour officials come naturally, after the reporters from L`Equipe have accused the American cyclist of taking performance-enhancing drugs.
The allegations appeared in the media soon after Armstrong entered the history books by conquering seven consecutive Tours, after he recovered from cancer just a year before his winning streak. It was soon very clear that all those rumors were not true, and the American waited in vain for Leblanc to apologize in the media. That never happened.
Referring to this year's Tour, he pointed out to Ullrich: "I originally picked Ullrich to win the Tour de France, but he seems to be behind again. If he's only five kilogrammes overweight that's pretty good for him but I don't understand him, he's got so much to gain.I don't know if he loves the bike or not but he could be the biggest sporting star in Germany".
Armstrong will not be present in France from the beginning of the race. He will visit the country and enjoy Le Tour of course in the last week of the competition.
