Lana Del Rey has released her much-hyped short film “Tropico,” which she’s been teasing her fans with for the past several days and, trust me, it was well worth the long wait. It is directed by Anthony Mandler and it’s just as crazy and beautiful as anything Lana attaches her name to.

However *because it contains images and language that might offend, I won’t embed it here. You can see it in all its almost-30-minute glory on YouTube.

Asked what the idea behind the film was, Lana said she imagined it as a “biblical story of sin and redemption,” and that’s just what it is.

The film opens with Lana as Eve and her Adam, as Jesus and several of America’s biggest icons (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and John Wayne) are watching over them from Heaven. However, as you know, Eve eats from the apple and she and Adam are cast away.

Their new life on earth isn’t exactly what you might call ideal because she has to make a living in a gentlemen’s establishment, while he’s a convenience store clerk. However, Lana wanted to tell a story of redemption as well but I won’t spoil it for you.

You’ll just have to watch the film to see what happens in the end.

Del Rey’s followup album to the huge hit “Born to Die” will be called “Ultraviolence” and is now in the making.
