First single off the “Ultraviolence” album gets a video worthy of that album name

One day after the release of her new album, “Ultraviolence,” Lana Del Rey has dropped the official music video for the single “Shades of Cool,” which does justice to the album name, in that it’s ultra-violent but beautiful at the same time.

You will find the video embedded in full below.

Coincidence or not, it comes just shortly after Lana said in an interview that she wished she was “dead already” because she no longer wanted to play the fame game anymore. So here she is in this video, romancing a much older man who’s “invincible” and “unbreakable” and a real Casanova, and then being killed at the end.

There is a strong suggestion halfway through the video that she was blasted by a shotgun, presumably handled by her “invincible” “baby.”

Still, the video is beautiful and true to Lana’s esthetic so far: it’s glamorous and has a certain vintage air, mysterious and sad. It’s the perfect companion for the song, which is also what fans have come to expect in terms of the Lana Del Rey sound.

“Ultraviolence” is now out in stores and it’s getting lots of positive reviews, despite the fact that Lana seems bent on promoting it by causing controversy.
