Though the packaging usually does a good enough job of saying what the product within can or cannot do, external storage units sometimes need more than just a good box to sell well. This is because, in addition to performance, they need to be stylish enough to grab the attention of prospective purchasers. As such, Team Group decided it was appropriate to give its TP1023 a more unusual appearance instead of the well-enough-loved glossy/matte/brushed look that most such solutions come with.
The TP1023, essentially, is an external hard disk drive with a chassis designed to emulate the appearance of a certain, popular sports car known as Lamborghini. Predictably, this appearance is intended not just as a means to ensure aesthetic value, but also as an indicator of the performance attainable by the unit. After all, this device is no common platter spinner.
As the title says, Team Group's latest creation is compatible with the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard, which means that data transfer rates of 5Gbps will allow even multi-gigabyte files to be copied in a timely fashion, in as much time as it would take for a Lamborghini to race by as it were. The developers didn't limit themselves to just this and also provided a suspension design, which provides significant shock resistance (the drive passed the 130 falling test).
As a bonus, the red car-like product boasts an automatic suspend mode that automatically shuts it down after being idle for a certain period of time. Finally, for a wider accessibility, USB 2.0 versions of the 500GB, 640GB, 750GB and 1TB models will be offered alongside USB 3.0. Unfortunately, pricing and availability details are undisclosed.
