Get the new handset if you’re ridiculously rich

Are you sitting on a huge pile of money and wondering what to do next? In case you also feel the latest iPhone isn’t high-class enough for you, you’ll be glad to know there’s an alternative waiting for you just around the corner.

Thank God, for good old alternatives. As was expected for some time, Lamborghini has officially announced the Tauri 88 smartphone which comes with an interesting design scheme and pretty powerful specs (as seen at Hi-Tech).

The Lamborghini 88 Tauri is deadly expensive

As you have probably figured it out by now, this smartphone won’t appeal to the average Joe because it will go on sale with outrageous $6,000 / price-tag. The luxury handset will be made available starting late December, just in time for the holiday season. Although we suspect that in the rich men’s world, it’s Christmas every day.

Lamborghini is custom making these phones and there’s going to be only 1947 units up for grabs. Why exactly 1947 units, you might wonder. Well, because this is the year of birth of the Lamborghini founder Tonino Lamborghini.

Anyway, for this massive chunk of money, you will get a handset that has dual-SIM support that allows both SIMs to be active at the same time. It will also take advantage of 4G LTE network.

The 88 Tauri is made of solid steel available in three coloring options including Gold, Black and plain steel coloring combined with leather (Black, Blue, Red, Orange or Brown).

If you’re wondering what Tauri stands for, it’s a reference to the Taurus constellation, a fact that’s highlighted by the raging bull logo you can see on the back.

The Tauri 88 offers a 5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and draws life from a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor fitted with 3GB of RAM and internal storage expandable up to 64GB.

The rear camera bundles a 20MP sensor, while an 8MP shooter lives up in the front. The Tauri 88 relies on a pretty sensible 3200 mAh battery, which is said to be able to sustain up 35 hours of talk time, 1000 hours of standby. Wow.

Last but not least, the handset runs yesterday’s Android 4.4 KitKat onboard. An Android 5.0 Lollipop is probably something out of the question.

If a while ago luxury smartphones could only brag about their looks, the premium material used or their name, they are slowly starting to catch up in the spec department, albeit not being yet able to offer anything mind-blowing in this department.

88 Tauri owners, enter the selfie-game

On top of launching the luxury 88 Tauri, Tonino Lamborghini is challenging buyers to take the most luxurious selfie in the world using the phone and post it on Instagram with the #TheLavishSelfie hashtag.

We expect to see a moderate avalanche of images featuring yachts, Dubai hotels and exotic islands, although it’s not clear what the prize for the best selfie is.
