14 DAY TRIAL // Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce from Lamar Odom in December 2013, but as of the time of writing, they’re still legally married: he refused to respond to the filing and she failed to see the case pursued. Even though they had no reason to stay married for all this time, especially since they had a solid prenup, they still are.
Lamar Odom is saying that this means that they’re working things out. He is hoping for a reconciliation, which he sees as more than likely, as it’s revealed in this new TMZ video.
“She’s still my girl”
TMZ paparazzi caught up with Lamar the other day, and naturally asked him about Khloe. In April this year, word got out that the case would be dismissed if Khloe didn’t initiate the next phase in the proceedings, which she was admittedly reluctant to do.
Since their legal separation, there have been countless reports, from more or less reputable sources, on how they were striving to salvage their relationship, now that Lamar was clean and sober, and addressing his infidelity issues.
It’s working, by the looks of it. In the video available at the link above, the pap asks him if there’s any chance for him and Khloe to get back together, and he replies with a simple “Of course.” “She’s still my girl,” he adds with a smile.
If you’ve been keeping up with the story, you probably remember that Lamar kept saying this for months after the split and well after Khloe filed the papers.
In turn, this led to speculation that the divorce filing was for show, to boost ratings in the Kardashians’ reality show. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt also did it for attention, making money off the frenzy that followed the filing. They eventually owned up to the lie.
However, in Lamar and Khloe’s case, this has been going on for far too long for it to be a stunt: they would have had to hide from the paparazzi for almost 2 years, which is nearly impossible when you’re someone as exposed as Khloe.
The more likely possibility is that they’re working things out. Or he’s deliberately misleading the media.
Khloe and Lamar’s whirlwind romance
The two met in 2009 and married after a very brief period of dating. As all Kardashians do, they turned their marriage into reality television gold, scoring their own spinoff and a wide range of new products to sell the fans.
By 2011, there was already a lot of talk of trouble in paradise, as Lamar’s basketball career took a nosedive. Also at about the same time, rumors of drug abuse and infidelity started; the former was easily dismissible by his spot in the NBA, but it persisted.
The latter was proven to be true almost 2 years later, as videos of him bragging about it emerged online. By that time, his drug problem had also made him hit rock bottom, with Khloe staging several interventions to get him to rehab, and seeing all of them fail.
After an ultimatum, she filed for divorce but she never made a secret of how much it pained her to end the marriage or how badly she wanted it to have played out differently. From what Lamar is saying, it seems that the heartbreak is at an end.
