Police have identified the man killed by police in Laguna Niguel. The shooting took place in the midst of an altercation during which an officer has been injured.

21-year-old Connor Bishop Zion of Laguna Niguel stabbed a police officer in both arms before a second policeman shot back.

The incident occurred at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday on the 200 block of Chandon, KABC reported.

“The deputies responded to the location here for a call of unknown trouble. They also stated that there was a victim who had been stabbed lying in the street.

“During the response to the call for service, one deputy was attacked by the suspect and another deputy shot and fatally wounded the assailant,” Lt. Jeff Hallock says in a statement posted to the Orange County sheriff's department website.

Two more people have been stabbed. Both they and the deputy have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and they are now stable. The pair have been identified as Zion's mother and his roommate.

“Zion’s mother and roommate were also injured as a result of the altercation and were transported to a local hospital for stab wounds,” Lt. Hallock adds.

The incident started off with police responding to a domestic violence disturbance and escalated to a shooting.

“There was a domestic dispute between his son and his mother, and then it led to some type of an escalation, and there were multiple shots heard by the neighbors,” neighbor Robert Fair recalls.

Residents have described hearing multiple bullets being fired, possibly an entire magazine.

“We just heard some police come in with their tires screeching and everything, then we heard a little bit of yelling after that, and then a whole [magazine] go off of the bullets, one after another, nonstop,” resident Yobani Salas says.
