A nose gear collapse on a Southwest Airlines jet has injured 10 people at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

The aircraft operated for Flight 345 incurred mechanical difficulties as it stopped at LaGuardia on its way from Nashville to Denver.

According to Newsday, the aircraft's nose gear collapsed as it hit Runway 4 at 5:40 p.m. It made it half way on the runway in a smoke cloud before it came to a halt.

“The aircraft skidded down the runway on its nose and then veered off and came to rest on the grass area between the runway and [the taxi area],” says Thomas Bosco, LaGuardia Airport general manager and Port Authority aviation interim director.

Port Authority reps add that, out of the 10 people injured in the crash, six were transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens with non-life-threatening wounds.
