Lady Gaga’s “The Fame Monster” is best selling album of the year with nearly 6 million copies sold

Not that anyone needed any more confirmation, but 2010 was definitely the year of Lady Gaga. When she didn’t shock / amaze / fascinate us with her fashion choices, she sold out tour dates and outperformed any other artist in the charts.

As a coronation of what was an incredible year for the singer, her latest album, “The Fame Monster,” has also been named the best selling release of the year, as MediaTraffic can confirm.

Without doing too much traditional promoting for it, since her very name is enough promotion, Gaga’s “The Fame Monster” from Interscope moved 5.8 million copies, thus landing at number one in the album charts.

Initially, the album was meant to be a sort of deluxe edition of “The Fame” but Gaga got a bit carried away with it (creatively) and turned it into a stand-alone release, as she said in previous interviews.

At number two is Eminem, who’s made one of the most spectacular comebacks in the history of music. His latest album, “Recovery,” moved 5.7 million copies, while also earning him critical acclaim, awards nominations and the much coveted title of MC of the Year.

Proving that he remains as popular as ever, The Biebs, Justin Bieber himself, is at number 3, with “My Worlds (My World + My World 2.0),” which managed to come only 100,000 copies short of Eminem’s feat.

Lady Antebellum is at number 4 with “Need You Now” (3.6 million copies), while Taylor Swift’s critically acclaimed “Speak Now” comes in at number 5 with 3.5 million items sold.

Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle, who rose to fame during the auditions stage of Britain’s Got Talent last year, and who went on to become one of the most successful artists of the day, is at number 6 with her Christmas album “The Gift.”

It sold 3,0 million copies, which is pretty impressive seeing how it was only recently released. Susan is also to be found at number 13 on the same chart with her debut album “I Dreamed a Dream,” which moved 2.1 million copies, which easily puts her on par with Gaga, Em and Biebs, if these two figures are combined.

Black Eyed Peas are at number 7 with “The E.N.D.” (3.0 million copies), a tie with Michael Buble and his “Crazy Love.” The final positions of the top 10 go to Sade and her “Soldier of Love” (2,3 million copies) and Alicia Keys with “The Element of Freedom,” with the same number of copies sold.
