Lady Gaga is done hearing people comment on her weight, saying she’s gotten too fat for her own good. Sick as she must be of this constant weight criticism / bullying, she isn’t about to shut up and let it wash over her: like many times in the past, Gaga is taking her critics head-on, on social media.

It’s an unwritten rule for pop stars, especially female, to be thin and toned, and if possible, extremely good looking. Gaga’s weight has oscillated greatly in the past couple of years, which means that she clearly doesn’t hold this “rule” as applicable to her.

In turn, this got her under fire from countless online bullies, who say that she’s “too fat” to be a pop star. As if one’s weight mattered in the least when it came to talent.

Gaga won’t have any of this weight bullying

She did it before and she’s not afraid to do it again. Because of said oscillations, Gaga’s growing a pretty thick skin when it comes to people who aren’t even fans trying to bully her into losing weight, so she’s taking to social media again to tell them off.

She calls this a “body revolution,” not in the sense that will go to war on the issue, but rather that she will actively take pride in her body. As she puts it, she would rather you called her fat than shallow, because she’s healthy and happy, and really doesn’t care what haters will say about her “perfect” weight.

“#bodyrevolution Proud at any size, because the inside is what really counts. Plus, it's all how you pose! Just ask the supermodels!,” Gaga writes. To prove her point, she also posed for the picture you can see attached to this article, which shows that a good angle can do all the difference when it comes to making someone look skinnier than they are in real life.

Gaga is the unofficial spokesperson for how being different is nothing to be ashamed of

Whether she does it because it serves her own purpose so well or not, Gaga is the unofficial spokesperson for the trending “be different and proud” campaign that’s been making a lot of waves online in recent years. She stands up for the gays and the LGBT community in general, for feminism, for body variety and acceptance, for beauty understood as something that exists in real life, and is not made up by fashion publication.

Indeed, Gaga is carrying some extra weight than she did, say, 3 years ago, but that doesn’t mean that she’s somehow less the celebrity / female performer she was back then. Neither does it give anyone the “right” to go after her on social media the way she’s been targeted.

No one likes to be told what to do, especially when it comes to something as deeply personal as outer appearance. Gaga out of all people will accept this – and it’s a good thing she’s speaking out because, this way, she’s sending the right message to the fans who look up to her: fitting social norms is not what life is all about. Health and happiness are.
