Lady Gaga Would Rather Die on Stage, Not on Vacation

Lady Gaga has been working very hard these past few months, what with making music videos and doing the international dates of her Monster Ball Tour. There are times when it shows, like that concert in Auckland, New Zealand, when she lied on the ground and seemed almost unable to stand. To reports that she should take some time off, Gaga has just one thing to say: she’ll sleep when she’s dead.
While performing “Speechless” in Sweden, the singer also made it a point of addressing all those media reports that say that she should not be burning the candle at both ends and get some rest as well. As she was banging at her customized flaming piano, Gaga interrupted her song to say that she would rather die on stage, in front of her fans, than take some time off. Later on in the song, she added that chances were pretty high too she might find her end due to alcohol abuse.
“You know when people say, ‘Lady Gaga’s really tired, she needs to take a break,’ I just think about all those times I sang in bars when nobody was singing my lyrics,” Gaga said in response to the crowd singing the lyrics along with her (in the video below at around the 1:30 minute mark). “I’ll sleep when I’m dead, okay?” she added in what is believed to be a not quite direct but still efficient statement as regards ongoing rumors about how she couldn’t possibly last for much longer like that.
She then continued with her song, getting up on the chair to bang on the piano with her foot, like she almost always does. Then, towards the end (at around the 6:30 minute mark), she cut herself short again to speak once more on the whole exhaustion topic. “I know that I work really hard and I run myself into the ground, and I also know that alcohol will kill me one day. But I would rather not die on vacation, I’d rather die onstage with all my fans,” she said.
Understandably, critics are not seeing that last part of her statement with kind eyes but many fans believe it was said more in the spirit of a jest. Either way, Gaga’s rendering of “Speechless” was dead on, as always. Below is the video (of rather poor quality, unfortunately). Enjoy.
