At the time Lady Gaga shot her controversial music video for “G.U.Y.,” her most recent release, California was facing the worst drought ever in the past 13 years. With this in mind, you can easily see why the good people at home are outraged that she would simply throw away 365,000 gallons of water for her “art.”

The elaborate video, which runs almost 12 minutes long and features the cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (minus Brandi Glanville, who was left out) and producer and Bravo TV personality Andy Cohen, was shot at the Hearst Castle, which is a National and California Historical Landmark mansion.

Before camera crews took over the estate to prepare everything for the video, Gaga made it clear that she planned on using the Neptune Pool for at least a couple of scenes, which meant that it had to be cleaned and filled with water.

However, during the preparations stage, it became clear that they would have to empty and refill the pool after each day of shooting, because it was leaking. Moreover, the decision was made to chlorinate the water used, because there would be people in it: dancers and Gaga herself.

So, while she had initially announced that she would donate $250,000 (€180,910) to the Castle in exchange to be allowed to use the location, her promise that the water would be reused fell through when it was discovered that it had been chlorinated, an inside source reveals for Radar Online.

“The water had to be chlorinated because Gaga got into the pool with synchronized swimmers. Since the water was chlorinated, it couldn’t be used for any of the irrigation or landscaping at the Castle. The water was simply drained and disposed of. It was a huge waste of water which is such a precious resource in California at the moment because of the drought,” the source says.

“It’s just ridiculous that all of that water was just dumped out after the video shoot was finished. It’s extremely hypocritical for Gaga to be filming PSA’s telling Californian’s how to save water, when she just wasted so much of it!” adds the insider.

The tipster is referring to a series of PSAs Gaga agreed to appear in, meant to raise awareness with the people of California of the importance of saving water. If it’s true that she just dumped such a quantity of water when it could have been used someplace else, only because she wanted to make a music video, that definitely makes her a hypocrite.

Here is the video, in case you missed it.
