Lady Gaga is (as always) causing a lot of waves with her latest single, “Born This Way,” the first off the upcoming album by the same name. In the February 26 issue of Billboard, which also celebrates her single as the 1000th number 1, she talks about the message of the album, rebirth and fashion.

As she did in previous interviews as well, Gaga insists that Lady Gaga and Stefani Germanotta, her real name, are one and the same person: there is no difference between who she is at home and who she is when she gets up on the stage to perform.

Everything she does, she does it for the fans – or her Little Monsters, as she calls them. The same goes for her latest album, which is dedicated to them in its entirety.

“Born This Way” is a dedication to the LGBT community and to bullied teens from said community. It’s the anthem of a generation, a cry of individuality that celebrates uniqueness.

“I wanted to put my money exactly where my mouth is. The Little Monsters all over the world as well as the gay community have been tremendously supportive over the years and I have in turn been supportive,” Gaga tells the magazine about the much-mediated song.

“Let’s call a spade a spade. It’s not like ‘The Fame’ and ‘The Fame Monster’ address those communities – not directly,” the singer says of why “Born This Way” is special and, thus, closer to her heart than her previous releases.

“This is my chance to create something that is not only supportive of my political and social beliefs – not just for the gay community, but for everyone... This is also my chance to artistically say, ‘I’m not being safe with this record.’ I’m not trying to gain new fans. I love the fans I already have, and this is for them,” she adds of the album.

In the same interview, Gaga admits that she overwhelmed by positive reaction to her latest endeavor, especially since there was some pressure for her to continue with it in the same vein as until then.

She also talks a bit about the Grammys 2011, how birth is not finite “but infinite,” how she’s an entirely different artist right now from the one that did “The Fame Monster” and how, in the end, we’re all “born this way.”

It’s an interesting read, whether you’re a fan or not. Check out the full interview here.
