Lady Gaga is undoubtedly one of the most paradoxical public figures showbiz has seen in many years, and it could very well be that happens because she invites controversy herself. If that is the case, the latest biography by Maureen Callahan should make Gaga happy for the assertions it makes.

A simple search on Amazon reveals there are countless books on Gaga, most made possible thanks to interviews with people who worked with her at one point or another.

The same goes for Callahan’s “Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga,” the only difference being that it includes the full names of those who have agreed to talk about the famous pop star.

The book, which should be out soon (September 14), reveals Gaga as being the contrary of what she’d like audiences to see: she’s lonely, she’s isolated and insecure but, at the same time, she’s a perfectionist who’d do anything to get things done.

By anything, Gaga also understands starving herself for weeks at a time just to make sure she fits her outrageous stage costumes or the outlandish outfits she even wears on public outings.

The claims are made by a former tour manager, the Daily Mail says. David Ciemny says Gaga had a hard time coping with fame, which made her turn to comfort food in between shows.

When this began to be noticed around her waist, she would suddenly starve herself, living off little food until she was skinny again. Gaga reportedly lose once 20 pounds in between two fittings, Ciemny claims in the book.

“When I say she was sick, I mean physically and mentally,” Ciemny says for Callahan in the bool. Talent scout Wendy Starland confirms, saying, “The pressure on her to lose weight was very high.”

Apparently, things got really bad about the time Gaga was getting ready to shoot the video for “Paparazzi,” which would turn out to be her first film-like video.

“Producers had to shoot around her. They draped fabric over her thighs and shot her backside with a softer lens,” a source on the set tells Callahan.

According to Star magazine (story via here), Gaga’s obsession with her weight derives from her obsession to have everything done to perfection, which has also made her fire no less than 150 people in almost 18 months over little mistakes.

At the same time, Gaga is incredibly insecure – so much so that she even asked Ciemny’s wife Angela to come over every single night and sleep in the same bed, just so she had someone to cuddle.
