As early as March this year, Lady Gaga was already working on her third album. One song that may make the cut on it is the ballad “Living on the Radio” she performed the other night in concert.

Gaga has often said that she never really takes a break from writing or recording new music even when she’s supposed to do so, and the recently unveiled track seems to confirm that.

Though she conquered music charts worldwide with her catchy pop beats and uptempo songs, Gaga also delivers brilliantly in ballads, as her fans must know, even if they get less airplay.

“Living on the Radio” is just one of those ballads: seemingly autobiographical and relying solely on Gaga’s voice and her skills at the piano (judging solely on her rendering of it, as seen in the video below), it’s an extraordinary track.

Or, as E! Online puts it, “Sometimes a girl just wants to kick off the seven-inch platforms, set down the 10-pound lobster headdress and put on some pants. And then express herself in song.”

For detractors, it’s easy to forget that Gaga is not just a pop singer but an artist. “Playing on the Radio,” which is, under no circumstance, bubble gum pop, should prove that.

“Which is exactly what Lady Gaga did in St. Paul, Minn., last night, when she debuted a new tune, the stripped-down, road-weary piano ballad ‘Living on the Radio,’ for her obliging Little Monsters,” E! writes.

“The tune is seemingly autobiographical and poignant – in pop parlance, if she were Britney Spears, this would be her ‘Lucky’,” the e-zine adds.

“If chosen for her as yet untitled new album – which she gave us fair warning would in fact be ‘bitter’ – it would mark a decidedly different direction for the superstar’s musical trajectory. Either that, or it’s an unfinished work in progress,” the publication further says.

As it happens, fans won’t know which is which, until her album – her third to date – comes out at the beginning of next year.
