Adele is one of the biggest contenders at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place at the end of August, having scored no less than 7 nominations. Lady Gaga got less – and her fans are taking to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction.

Though Gaga’s message is generally one of love, understanding and acceptance, the Little Monsters, as she likes to call her fans, draw the line at her music and, it would seem, Adele’s weight.

Some have taken to Twitter to attack the British songstress for her weight, as if that would have anything to do with the number of nominations she got at the VMAs, MTV Newsroom informs.

In doing so, they’re going against everything their idol is preaching – and Gaga is probably not at all pleased with this.

“Listen Little Monsters, we know you’re less than thrilled that Lady Gaga didn’t score as many nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards as you may have wanted or expected, but do you think she’d be pleased that you are attacking the appearance of a singer who did score some nods?” MTV asks.

There’s no comparing Adele’s “21” album to Gaga’s “Born This Way” for a variety of reasons, so fans shouldn’t even attempt to disparage Adele’s music by attacking her weight.

“Adele probably ate Lady Gaga’s other nominations,” one Little Monsters writes on Twitter. “CONFIRMED: Gaga will not be wearing the meat dress at the 2011 VMA’s because she is afraid Adele will eat her,” another adds.

Sadly, these are just two instances of the nasty comments made on Adele’s expense for the simple fact that her music videos happened to get more praises than Gaga’s.

As MTV sees it, this is as hurtful as it’s useless, because it will not change the number of nominations Gaga got. Moreover, the singer would probably be “mortified” if she knew what some of her fans were doing.

“They’re not engaging in any kind of civil debate, they are reaching for the easy insult. It’s the very thing Lady Gaga rails against. She stands in front of stadiums around […] and preaches a message of unconditional acceptance,” the e-zine says.
